“This, is just simply an excellent FF camera and and better than Canon and probably Nikon (don’t have one). Small, simple and very high quality. Leica has hit a home run with this camera. Combined with the high quality optics of the M lenses, it is just amazing. I also have the 5DII (also excellent) and it is better for many situations but, the image quality is not the same as the M9. I have had no problems with my M8 or the M9, which I have had for 9-months. I would recommend this camera to all but, professionals who need specific qualities in a camera like, AF or long lenses, or very high ISO (over 3200). As an amateur, I am more interested in creating art than pleasing a client and this camera lends itself to the creative process because, it just gets out of your way. But, I would recommend it to professionals as their personal camera (or, for their work depending on what they shoot). This is just a great camera.”

“Leica have hit a home-run with the M9, it combines the finest modern (digital) technology with old-world, original camera functionality. The Leica M9 is one of the best designed cameras, it is really easy to use with just the shutter-speed dial up on top instead of the usual cluster of stuff found on every other digital camera. And then there’s the focusing rangefinder – it is the only camera on the market where you know FOR A FACT that your subject is either in or out of focus before you take the shot.
The Leica M9 is comparably priced to other top of the line professional digital cameras – but this camera will actually engage your photographic skill and talent! Buy it.”

“I started photography with my dad’s 1960′s Nikon F – fully manual lens, aperture, shutter speed control, and film. Then, for a brief period, I had an Olympus P&S film camera. In 2000 I discovered digital, and, in the 10 years, have run the gamut from Fuji 6900> Fuji S602 > Canon 10D > Canon 1D Mark II > Canon 1Ds > Canon 1Ds Mark III and now I have the Leica M9 (and also the 1Ds Mark III).
While I appreciate the convenience afforded by the Canon 1Ds Mark III, the Leica forces me to slow down and think, as I did with my Nikon F. While the Canon 1Ds Mark III represents speed, the M9 represents a need for thoughtful deliberation. It helps that Leica offers spectacular Leica lenses such as the 35/1.4 Summilux and 50/0.95 Noctilux to go with the M9. Honestly, despite trading Canon speed for Leica thoughtful photography, I do not feel like I lose much. My pictures have taken on a three-dimensionality, primarily because I love isolating subjects with huge apertures. Colors are lovely (“Leica-like”) and Black and Whites are wonderful (I will say that I used Nik Software Silver Efex Pro for my B+W processing). Also, the Leica is built like a tank. It has heft, and sense of purpose. A joy to carry and to use.
I recommend the M9 for anyone serious about photography.”
